Privacy Policy
Your privacy matters. This policy explains what information Avert collects, why we use it, who may process it, and the choices and rights available to you.

1. About this policy
This Privacy Policy applies to the Avert mobile application, website, and related services. It explains how personal information is handled when you create an account, purchase access, complete check-ins, track your progress, use faith-based features, participate in the community, or otherwise use Avert.
2. Information we collect
The information Avert processes depends on the features you use. It may include:
- Account information:information needed to create and maintain your account, such as your account identifier, email address, authentication provider, and profile information.
- Onboarding information:answers you choose to provide while setting up Avert and personalising your experience.
- Check-ins and reflections:information you submit about your progress, feelings, habits, struggles, goals, reflections, and related activity.
- Progress information:information used to calculate streaks, milestones, check-in history, recital progress, and other progress indicators.
- Community content:posts, comments, reports, and other content you choose to submit through community features.
- Subscription information:information about your subscription status, entitlement, purchase history, product selected, and related transaction identifiers.
- Technical information:limited technical information necessary to operate, secure, diagnose, and improve the service, such as device information, app version, error information, and service logs.
3. Sensitive information
Because of Avert's purpose, information you voluntarily provide may reveal particularly sensitive aspects of your life, including information concerning religious beliefs, sexual behaviour, personal struggles, or wellbeing.
Where this information is considered sensitive or special-category personal data under applicable law, including the GDPR where applicable, we process it only where we have an appropriate legal basis and satisfy any additional requirements applicable to that type of information.
You are not required to provide more information than is necessary to use the features you choose. Please avoid including unnecessary personal information about yourself or other people in free-text reflections or community content.
4. How we use information
We use personal information where necessary to provide and operate Avert and for purposes including:
- creating and authenticating your account;
- providing access to Avert and verifying subscription status;
- saving your check-ins, reflections, progress, and preferences;
- providing personalised app functionality;
- operating community features;
- processing reports and moderating harmful or prohibited content;
- maintaining the security and reliability of Avert;
- diagnosing technical problems and preventing abuse;
- responding to support, privacy, and account requests; and
- complying with applicable legal obligations.
5. Legal bases
Where the GDPR or similar laws apply, our legal basis depends on the information and the reason it is being processed.
We may process information where it is necessary to perform our contract with you, comply with a legal obligation, or pursue legitimate interests such as securing and operating Avert where those interests are not overridden by your rights.
Where consent is required, including where applicable for certain processing of sensitive information, we will request it separately. You may withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing that was lawful before withdrawal.
6. Information stored on your device
Avert may store certain preferences, temporary information, cached content, onboarding state, and other app data locally on your device. Information that the app explicitly identifies as device-only remains on your device unless you choose to use a feature that uploads or shares it. Removing Avert or clearing its local data may permanently delete device-only information.
7. Community information
Content you intentionally publish through Avert's community features is intended to be visible to other users according to the visibility of that feature.
Do not include private information in a community post or comment that you do not want other users to see. We may process community content and reports for moderation, safety, abuse prevention, and enforcement of our Terms.
Your private check-ins and reflections are separate from community content and are not made public merely because you participate in the community.
8. Subscriptions and payments
Avert is a paid service and requires an active subscription for access except where we expressly provide a trial, promotional access, or another limited form of access.
Purchases may be processed by platforms such as the Apple App Store or Google Play. Avert does not need to receive your complete payment-card details from those platforms in order to verify your subscription.
We may receive information necessary to determine whether you have an active subscription, such as transaction identifiers, subscription status, product information, renewal or expiration information, and purchase history.
9. Service providers
We use third-party service providers to operate Avert. Depending on the features and platform you use, these providers may process information on our behalf or as independent controllers.
These may include providers for authentication and backend infrastructure, subscription management, app-store payments, hosting, communications, security, and other infrastructure required to provide Avert.
We provide service providers only with information reasonably necessary for the relevant service and require appropriate data protection arrangements where required by law.
10. We do not sell your personal information
We do not sell your private check-ins, reflections, religious information, or information about your personal struggles to advertisers or data brokers. We do not use this sensitive information for third-party targeted advertising.
11. International data transfers
Some service providers may process information in countries other than the country where you live. Where applicable data-protection law requires safeguards for an international transfer, we use appropriate mechanisms designed to protect personal information, such as adequacy decisions, standard contractual clauses, or other legally recognised safeguards.
12. How long we keep information
We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including providing your account and the service, meeting legal obligations, resolving disputes, preventing abuse, and maintaining appropriate business and security records. Different categories of information may have different retention periods. When information is no longer required, we delete or anonymise it where reasonably practicable, subject to legal or technical retention requirements.
13. Account deletion
You may request deletion of your Avert account and associated personal information through the deletion options made available by Avert or by contacting us.
Deleting your account may permanently remove check-ins, reflections, progress, and other account information. Certain information may be retained where required by law or where necessary for security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, or other legitimate purposes permitted by applicable law.
Deleting your Avert account does not necessarily cancel an App Store or Google Play subscription. Subscriptions should also be cancelled through the platform through which they were purchased.
14. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal information against unauthorised access, loss, misuse, alteration, or disclosure. No online service or storage system can guarantee absolute security, and we cannot guarantee that security incidents will never occur.
15. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights concerning your personal information. These may include rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to certain processing and to receive certain information in a portable format.
Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time. You may also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority.
We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling certain privacy requests.
16. Children
Avert is not intended for children who are not legally permitted to use the service or provide the relevant personal information under applicable law. If we learn that personal information has been collected from a child in circumstances where the required consent or other legal basis was not available, we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
17. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as Avert develops or as legal requirements change. If we make material changes, we will provide notice where required by law. The date below shows when this policy was most recently updated.
18. Contact
